Papers, 1778-1900.

Papers of William Dawes, who rode to Lexington and Concord to report British troop advances, April 18, 1775, with several newspaper clippings pertaining to his role. Family accounts of Dawes' ride include a poem by his granddaughter Julia Goddard and a descriptive letter written by Mehetable M. Goddard, Dawes' daughter. An announcement of the dissolution of partnership of the firm Dawes and Coolidge which Dawes formed with his brother-in-law John Coolidge is also contained in the collection. Also, Dawes' last will, along with an account of his estate, several letters concerning the disbursement of the estate, a copy of the will of Dawes' second wife Lydia, and a family record drawn up by Dawes' son, Charles.
